‘I Would Rather Be Pole Dancing’ and UK Pole Dance Day -  1st May 2010

UK Pole Dance Day pole dancing picture

So, It’s the 1st May and its 6am!

I cannot sleep due the excitement of the day and wow what a day.

I’ve packed my disclaimers, heels, mega grip, business cards, posters, food.... Red Bull! Where’s my Red Bull?! Ok Got it! ?

The Venue has everything sorted I walk in & it smells like spring( Thank you Glade) and the manager has a classic violin piece playing, it was like walking into a tranquil Pole Paradise.... little did we now later it would be 25 people full and rammed full of energy.

My team of helpers arrive and they help me in preparing what went down as one of the biggest events ‘I Would Rather Be Pole Dancing’ has been lucky enough to be involved in.

The morning had a line up of 2 free pole dancing taster sessions and considering it was a bank holiday weekend we had a fab turn out & all participants embraced their new fitness. The helpers excelled themselves by building their confidence and relaxing them into the ‘first time poling’ nerves. By the end of the session everyone had learnt a mini routine to take home and practise on neighbouring lampposts & they all were clear and had grasped the idea and our intentions as a ‘fitness’ based class. Some even left wearing UK Pole Dance Day T-shirts (Customised first of course)

The afternoon Pole Jam bought in faces old and new from across the globe.  It’s a very surreal moment when you look around the room knowing that somehow you’ve played a part in making all those people come together and build such strong friendships and bonds. Watching them all play together and having such fun exercising..... Makes ya go all gooey and warm inside.......then they try a new pole dancing move. It hurts like hell. Then they hate you! Ha!

Seriously though the day was a great success with over 25 girls for the Pole Jam, cake, banter, more cake and new moves being learnt in all directions. The atmosphere was electric!!

I think UKPDD was a great success and hopefully other schools got as much out of their days as we did.

I would like to thank the Equity Pole Dancers Working Party for creating such a benchmark day in the Pole Dance Community Calendar, the Pole Dance Community for their ongoing support to ‘I Would Rather Be Pole Dancing’ and help in making sure Press Releases were informative & educational. Thanks also go to the Managers at Bar 95 for their generosity on the day and hiring a door lady to keep the riff raff out

But, the biggest appreciation goes to my helpers that relentlessly helped behind the scenes, my sister for being my rock and my girls..... I Love them all and enjoy watching you all grow, develop & the fact we’re smiling and having a laugh en route, well that’s just the icing on the cake.

Thank You
