UK Pole Dance Day 2010 - The Big Review

UK Pole Dance Day Pole dancing picture

The 2nd ever UK Pole Dance Day was an outstanding success with pole dancing events taking place across the UK. We also saw lots of articles and interviews in local papers and radios as pole dance schools helped to educate the public about our art. Here are just some of the schools that took part:

Emily's Pole Fitness, in Swindon, had a lovely informative write up in the Swindon advertiser, click here to read the first article, click here to read the second article.

JLN Pole Fitness in Bolton opened it's doors to both students and members of the public on UK Pole Dance Day 2010. We started at 2pm with a Pole Jam for our students who demonstrated to ladies who were thinking of joining a session so they could see what different levels of pole dancing ability there are.

JLN Pole Fitness Founder Jess Leanne Norris (pictured below with her students) did a class demonstration for ladies who hadn’t done any type of Pole Fitness and they all really enjoyed their first experience. Jess's demo was followed by demos from JLN Pole Fitness students. Jess said "I believe it is always important to demonstrate a pole dancing performance to people who have never seen it done before.  People do have pre-conceived ideas about pole dance and that is why we joined in with UK Pole Dance Day.  We all had a fantastic time and we will definitely be joining in again next year.

My students who performed have only been doing Pole Fitness session for between 6 and 12 months.  I have to say they all did excellent performances and their ability is amazing after such a short time.  They impressed everyone and it just goes to show that you don’t need years of experience before you are able to perform a routine.

Pole Fitness
isn’t for everyone as it can be very difficult and challenging at times.  I have to say for me personally it is the most fun way of getting into shape and very rewarding.  You receive so much support from class members when you achieve a new move; it really is a great to see so much encouragement.

Pole Fitness is becoming more and more accepted in today’s society, it will always have its fun side but most importantly it gets you extremely toned a fit very quickly. That’s why both men & women of all ages are attending Pole Fitness sessions as their form of fitness." Click here to see clips from the event.

Maxine was fantastic and really put the girls through their paces, from her signature drops to spinning out and finishing moves and concluding with a hardcore ab training session. Everybody left aching but smiling!"

London based "Rock 'n' Roll Pole had a fabulous beginners pole dancing lesson followed by a pole jam for pole dancers of all levels at our lovely new location in Crouch End, London. Pole dancers of all abilities showed off their tricks and spins and share their poling tips with one another. Dana Mayer of Rock 'n' Roll Pole was on hand to answer any questions, spot students, and demonstrate pole dancing moves. Dana said "Great day -- can't wait to do it again next year!"

Pippa from PoleNastics (pictured below) took her podium pole dancing unit outdoorsso the public could see Al Fresco pole dancing. Pippa said "I am super honoured to have been a part of UK Pole Dance Day 2010 and am so looking forward to seeing how other pole dancing schools got on with their events."

In Reading at the Purity Pole Studio there was a free pole jam in the afternoon with demonstrations from instructors and students, approximately 16 students attended. Jolene Parlour, founder and principal instructor at Purity Pole, said "The feedback from this pole jam has been extremely positive with some of the students saying it was their best one they had gone too. Lots of students tackled some new moves and managed to master some old ones.  Purity student Kate Tolhurst performed a routine for the first time ever, she was a bit nervous to start with but then got into the performance Her song was Sam Sparro - Black and Gold.

3 Purity Instructors, Suze Lidbury, Emma Park Watt and Beth Hadcroft performed a challenge, all the moves they could do (without repeating any) in 90 seconds up the pole, without feet touching the floor, the scoring was very close but Suze won with 22. The students got involved by timing them and a team of people counting each move. My challenge was for the students to pick a song for me to dance to at random, something they thought would challenge me, they picked Puretone - Addicted to Bass, so it was quite fast, but really fun!"

The Pole Dance Community would like to thank the Equity Pole Dancers Working Party for all their hard work in organising the event. We are already looking forward to UKPDD 2011.
