Poleminx Surrey at Circus Suburbia, Kingston, July 2010
Surrey PDC Approved School Poleminx was invited to pole dance in the Circus big top on 11 July 2010, as part of Circus Suburbia’s contribution to the Kingston Upon Thames River Festival 2010.

Jumping at the opportunity to portray the graceful and athletic side of pole dance, and bring it to a wider family audience, Elaine performed a slow and floaty routine inspired by water spirits during her part of the Circus’ show entitled ‘The River and it’s People’.
Elaine says “I got great feedback afterwards; a number of people had initially wondered what pole dancing was doing in a Circus line-up, but then got to see that it could take its place alongside some of the artistic and physical Circus disciplines such as silks and trapeze. I was so thrilled to have the opportunity to perform with the Circus”.

There was also a successful pole dance workshop in the Big Top the day before, where the public and performers were introduced to pole dance spins and aerial tricks; the silks artists picked up moves like Angel and Gemini instantly as variations of these are done on the Corde Lisse routinely.
Elaine hopes to build further links with the Circus, to swap skills and continue to promote pole dancing in a positive light to new audiences.

Poleminx have been teaching pole around Surrey since 2005; for further information, please visit the Pole Minx website.
The Pole Dance Community would like to congratulate Elaine Gosling, founder of Pole Minx, for taking pole dancing to a wider audience and further educating the public about pole dancing. |
