Welcome to our latest PDC approved Pole Dance school Vertical Dance.

Vertical Dance Pole Dancing Picture

Vertical Dance is owned by KT Coates (pictured above) and has been running for the last six years. It was one of the first schools to introduce pole dance solely as a fitness form and has worked hard to help promote the health benefits of pole fitness. The Vertical Dance forum was also one of the first of its kind discussing the benefits of pole, followed by our online lessons and then our teacher training course and DVDs, many instructors and student have benefited from the website over the years. We created the online petition to get pole fitness into to the Olympics and from this with the help of Tim Truman we have now created PoleSports.org.

Vertical Dance now offers pole dancing classes in Cheshunt, Hoddesdon, Ware in Hertfordshire and London.

The PDC Team little interview:

What first got you into pole dancing?

I was a podium dancer many years ago and a friend ask if I wanted to try out pole dancing and I haven’t looked back!!

What are your favourite pole moves
?

I love the wow factor of the hand springs and straight edge combinations, it never fails to impress.

Do you prefer spinning or static pole?

I only teach on the static pole but I love the fluidity of the moves on a spinning pole.

Do you use 45mm or 50mm poles?

I have both in my class and prefer a 45mm, how ever I only use a 50mm so that I train myself to work on any thing, as its easy to go down a size but not so easy to go up.

What sort of poles do you use?

I have had all of the poles over the years but I currently use a mixture of the old style chrome x-poles and new titanium XSport and Xtreme upgrade.

Do you have a favourite grip aid?

Never had the need for it, I have hands like a brick layer!

What is your pole dancing nemesis?

The inverted splits (AKA Downward facing splits and Banana splits)  as I invert on one side but split on the other, nightmare.

What sort of students have you worked with?

I have taught some of the most well know pole dancers out there and I have had students from all over the world.

What do you do aside from pole dancing?

I am qualified in group fitness, Bootcamp, hula hoop, and pre and post natal fitness and I have just started a new free pre and postnatal fitness site SpeedyMammas to help mums and mums-to-be stay fit and healthy at every stage of becoming a parent. I am also self taught at trapeze, silk and rope and love rock climbing. I have an 11 month old daughter who also seems to have a love for climbing things and who takes up a lot of my time, so I would say that I am the queen of multi tasking!!!

Have you ever had any injuries from pole dancing?

Two broken noses, impinged rotator cuffs, torn hamstring and broken finger so not too much!
