ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) registration for pole dance schools

To be a Pole dance Community UK approved pole dance school you are required to have up to date ICO registration (unless you are exempt - most schools are).

Here is a guide to what ICO is, how to get it as well as tips for complying with current data protection laws.

If you store any personal information either by paper or electronic storage then you need to be aware of the data protection act and comply with it. We feel that it is important for pole dancing students to know that any information they give to a pole dance school or pole dance instructor will be handled responsibly.

The following checklist will help you comply with the Data Protection Act. Just being able to answer yes to every question does not guarantee compliance and you may need more advice in particular areas. However the guidelines should point you in the right direction.

  • Do I really need to store this information about an individual?
  • Does the individual know how I am going to use the information?
  • Do the people whose information I hold know that I've got it?
  • Do the people whose information I hold understand what it will be used for?
  • If I'm asked to pass on personal information would the people whose information I hold expect me to do this?
  • Am I satisfied that the information I hold is being held securely?
  • Is my website secure?
  • Is access to personal information limited to those who absolutely need to know?
  • Am I sure that the personal information I hold is accurate and up to date?
  • Do I effectively delete or destroy any personal information as soon as I have no need for it any more?
  • Have I trained my staff as to their responsibilities under the Data Protection Act?
  • Are my staff effectively carrying out their training in respect of the Data protection act?
  • Do I need to notify the Information Commissioner?
  • Is my ICO registration up to date?
