Hi All, The Equity pole dancers working party alongside the pole dance community have been working on a code of ethics to assist and improve the competitions scene in the UK. If you have been involved in any pole dance competition in any way whether by competing, judging , promoting or just spectating we want your feedback. When we ask for your feedback we are not simply looking for things that are wrong with current UK competitions, we also want to hear from you about the great things about UK comps. We hope to debate the issue without simply resorting to slagging off individuals or competitions. Please be reminded that despite any views you may have against specific competitions there is a lot of hard work that goes into organising and promoting a competition and that on its own deserves some respect. If you are e-mailing feedback please state whether you would prefer your feedback kept anonymous, confidential or public. We will of course aim to deal with each comment with due diligence and the last thing we want is to create any more tension within the industry. We believe that for the UK pole dancing industry to move forwards we need to work together. We also believe that if we are to get pole dancing into the Olympics and / or recognised as a national sport /dance form we need some standardisation. Once we have collated as many ideas as possible we will be organising a meeting in Bristol in late January to thrash out ideas and hopefully reach a conclusion about how we can support existing competitions. The meeting will be open to anyone who wants to attend. Dates and times to be sent out ASAP. These are some of the questions that have been put to us so far, please feel free to respond to individual points or add new questions or ideas. Should UK judging be standardised? How do we create a national syllabus that we all recognise (we need a national syllabus for effective judging)? Should there be a judging qualification or should judges be subject to a strict set of guidelines to ascertain their suitability to judge? How can we support the existing competitions such as Miss Pole Dance UK, PoleDivas, NSPDS and the BIPDC (let us know if we have omitted any competitions)? Is there room for another national competition? Should we separate fitness competitions from glamour competitions? Should competition venues be over 18's only? Should competitors be able to see their official scorecards? How should competitors be selected for final competitions? Should competitors have to pay to enter competitions? Please feel free to circulate this e-mail to as many people as possible so that no one misses out on having their say. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.
