Dedicated to uniting the Pole Dance Community

montage of happy pole dance community members

What is the Pole Dance Community (PDC)?

The PDC was set up in May 2009 primarily to provide self regulation and promote best practice within the fitness pole dancing industry, but also to provide safe, educated advice to new students..

We have since grown to represent over 200 independent pole dance instructors who are united by our strict code of conduct.

More than 500 pole dancing students from around the world have gained recognition with our pole dancer grading scheme.

We are a democratic and predominantly female community who decide among ourselves what is best for our community.

We have no leaders, just common sense and consensus.

For Pole Dance Instructors

Approved pole dance instructor logoMembership is open to all who can abide by the code of conduct.

We also need to physically check your pole dance instructor's insurance documents, first aid qualifications, pole dance experience and fair pricing policy before we welcome you on-board and provide you with your PDC Approved logo.

We want you to join us and there is just a small admin fee each year to cover the time taken in checking your documents.

For Pole Dance Students

<p>This means that we <strong>physically check</strong> each and every pole dance instructor's insurance documents, first aid qualifications, pole dance experience and fair&nbsp;pricing policy. &nbsp; We do this so you don't have to. &nbsp;</p>

Pole Dancing Instructors insurance USA
Written by Mark Culp.

Insurance for Pole Dance Instructors and Pole Dance Studios is no longer a problem in the USA.

PDC USA

Six years ago James and Mary Ellyn Weissman, owners of Empowerment Through Exotic Dance, Ltd., approached me to find insurance coverage for their prospective Pole Dance studio.

I remember when Jim called me and told me Mary Ellyn was becoming a pole dance instructor. I thought he was kidding. I asked if he was serious about letting his wife become a stripper. He explained that his wife Mary Ellyn had started doing pole dance instruction of everyday women for fun and fitness, which is very different business than stripping, and while there was nothing wrong with being a stripper, it would be an extreme mistake to call her or one of her students a stripper. I did not make that mistake again!

Alice Milner achieves Level 2 status

Alice Milner achieves PDC Approved Level 2 Pole Dancing Instructor Status.

Alice Milner pole fitness picture

Alice Milner is the proprietor and principal instructor at Pole Dancing Bath. Alice is an accomplished fitness professional, pole dance teacher and pole dance performer. Alice received her 2 references from fellow Level 2 PDC Approved Pole Dancing Instructors Kate Johnstone and Stacey Snedden:

Reference - Kate Johnstone (Spin City) - "Having competed against Alice at the Inter Universities Pole Championship (2010) we have subsequently worked closely together – especially in setting up Spin City Bath. Alice has a great background in a range of fitness based activities including Yoga and Hula Hooping and brings elements of these to her pole work. Her qualifications including her ETM help her bring a balance approach to her classes teaching an athletic form of pole – focusing on developing both sides of the body and practising safe pole with spotters. I believe she meets all the PDC criteria and would also help work closely with the community to continue developing pole".

PDC Approved Pole Dancing Instructor Jamie Alexah-Taylor achieves Level 2 status.

jamie taylor pole dancer

Jamie Alexah Taylor has been teaching pole dancing since 2006 with her pole dance school Defy Gravity and in addition to her teaching experience Jamie is also well known for her competition success. Jamie won the prestigious title of All Wales Pole Champion 2011 and was also an elite semi finalist at the United Kingdom Professional Pole Championships 2011.

Jamie received her references from fellow Level 2 PDC Approved Pole Dancing Instructors Pippa Caesar and Sam Remmer.

Pippa said "Before I started teaching I stumbled across Jamie at Defy Gravity on a trip to visit my parents in Wales back in 2008. I booked 3 hours of private lessons and I got my arse KICKED! Now I always make sure I see Jamie so we can pole together every time I go to Wales to see my parents.

Jamie is methodical, seriously knowledgeable and up on every single new trick, variation and transition. She is highly technical and has the ability to break something down, even when she and I are upside down, left handed or right handed, hanging on by a leg and armpit hair.

Featured PDC Approved Pole Dancing Instructor Sophie Herrmann.

Sophie Herrman pole dancing portrait

Sophie Herrmann may look familiar to many of you as she is the cover star for the first ever Pole Dance Commmunity Syllabus book.  Aside from being our cover star Sophie is busy teaching pole dancing in the Welsh city of Cardiff. We spoke to her to find out more about her and her passion for pole dancing.

Can you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is  Sophie Herrmann and I run Ascendance Theatre Arts Ltd. in Cardiff. Last year I founded Cardiff University Pole Dance Society and set up the first ever South-West Inter-University Pole Dance Competition which was attended by 6 South-West University Pole Dance Societies and raised £1000 for charity. I was pleased when my choreography won us the team entry last year and I am keeping my fingers crossed for another win this year when Bristol host the Inter- University Pole Dance Competition on March 17th. This year I have founded Cardiff Metropolitan University Pole Dance Society (formerly known as UWIC) and also run classes for non- students in a variety of venues in Cardiff.

An interview with Kirstie Tancock
Written by Sam Remmer

Kirstie Tancock - proving the health benefits of pole dancing.

Kirstie Mills pole dancing portrait
Many of you will have seen Kirstie's amazing story on the recent BBC3 documentary 'Love on the transplant list' or in the news but for those of you who haven't here is the low-down; Kirstie is a CF (cystic fibrosis) sufferer and last year her lungs finally failed her. Kirstie was lucky enough to receive a last minute transplant that saved her life.

I spoke to Kirstie to find out how pole dancing has helped her and to see how she is adapting to life back on the pole:

Hi Kirstie, thanks for taking the time to talk to us. Can you tell us a little bit about CF (CF Trust)

CF is a genetic disease, my parents did not have it themselves but passed on 2 faulty genes to me, meaning I have Cystic Fibrosis, I was diagnosed with CF at 6weeks old after being born with miconium ileuis and having emergency surgery hours after being born, this was a symptom of CF so I was then tested. Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.
